Southwest Tech delivers innovative, hands-on technical education that helps people
build careers and strengthen communities. We offer year-round schedules, flexible lab and classroom hours, and a wide range of competency-based programs. Affordable and local, we support both high school and adult students as they explore, develop, and upgrade their careers.
Our Guiding Principles
Four principles shape everything we do, from the first conversation to graduation day.
In Focus
We are student-focused. We want to know your name, your story, and your dreams, and our charted course is set by your best interest.
All Hands-On Deck
Technical education is the real deal. Hands-on education works, and we are passionate about what we do.
Better Together
We are not just a college, we are a village. We hold our community and employers in high regard, and we collaborate rather than compete.
The Bold Standard
We are the leader in technical education. We celebrate success, step outside the box, and set the example of hard work and dedication.
I hope you will want to become part of the Southwest Tech family, and that the education and experience you gain will lead to both personal and professional growth.— Brennan Wood, President
More than three decades of technical education
Southwest Tech began in 1994 as the Southwest Applied Technology Center Service Region. In 2000, House Bill 261 formally created the Southwest Applied Technology Center, and a year later it became one of eight campuses of the new Utah College of Applied Technology.
In 2017, the college was renamed Southwest Technical College. In 2020, Senate Bill 111 merged the Utah System of Higher Education and the Utah System of Technical Colleges, bringing Southwest Tech into a unified statewide system. The college opened the Cedar City Business & Innovation Center in 2021, and in 2023 it transitioned from clock-hour to credit-hour tuition to align with all Utah higher education institutions.
Today, Southwest Tech remains the region’s recognized leader in top-quality technical education, focused on meeting the needs of students and employers across Southwest Utah.
